Carney's first official visit to the UAE. The UAE announced it would invest $70 billion in Canada. The joint statement from the same visit, in the version the Canadian government published itself, called for "an end to the occupation of the three islands of the UAE".

• نیروهای ایران از ۳۰ نوامبر ۱۹۷۱ در هر سه جزیره مستقرند: تنب بزرگ و تنب کوچک با نیروی نظامی از رأس‌الخیمه گرفته شد، و نیروهای ایران طبقِ تفاهم‌نامه‌ای با شارجه برای ادارهٔ مشترکِ ابوموسی در آن پیاده شدند. یعنی بیش از هفت سال پیش از آن‌که جمهوری اسلامی وجود داشته باشد. Iranian forces have been on all three islands since 30 November 1971: the Greater and Lesser Tunbs were taken by force from Ras al-Khaimah, and Iranian troops landed on Abu Musa under a joint-administration agreement with Sharjah. That is more than seven years before the Islamic Republic existed.

The government's answer to a 46,000-signature petition asking Canada to recognize him: "Canada does not support any opposition figure in Iran…"

When the United States and Israel struck Iran in February, Carney backed the strikes, then said Canada did so "with regret" and that they appeared "inconsistent with international law". His statement on the islands carries no such caution.
